Canada Day Firework Celebration Dinner, Donalda Club
July 1, 2022
Before the year of 2022 ended, we gathered together and brought our favorite dishes to share with one another. Appetizers, main courses, desserts and drinks were presented to celebrate the holiday. The food was absolutely delicious! Besides eating, we chatted, played games, sang and danced. We also had piles of presents for gift drawing. We had so much fun and felt the holiday spirit. May the holiday season bring happiness and health to all of us!
While the weather did not cooperate (a rainy day), we needed to implement our contingency plan. Instead of having an outdoor activity, we changed gear to organize a movie day. We ordered takeout for lunch before watching a romantic comedy film. Before we returned home, we had dinner together at a nearby restaurant. Although it sounded like an ordinary activity that we could have done it at home on our own, what was important and fun was spending time together as a group. We had a great time!
We attended an event named, "Plates for Communities", organized by another non-profit organization. The event aimed to educate the attendees about how the community, especially children, had been impacted by hunger and poverty and what we could do to alleviate the issues. In the event, we saw how its food bank operated in person, understood what the organization had done to meet the food bank users' needs of vegetable consumption during winter season and visited various facilities within the organization. After the tour, dinner was served. The food was simple but yet delicious. Several speakers were invited to give us presentations, helping us further understand about the demands for food from the community. The event was very informational and meaningful.
Despite a brutal heat wave, our outdoor dining experience in Casa Loma was fantastic. The restaurant is amid the castle's beautiful gardens and overlooks the splendid view of CN Tower and downtown Toronto. We were initially seated near the fountain. Because of the sun, we moved to another table under a plastic roof. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the stunning gardens featuring a variety of seasonal flowers that came in different colors. Not only did we like the delightful surroundings, but also we really enjoyed the food. We had an amazing night!
On July 1, Canada Day, our Goldie friends came together and celebrated the birthday of our country over buffet dinner at a club in North York. In addition to a variety of delicious food, the club presented an incredible firework show in the late evening. When the fireworks lit up the sky, everyone tried to capture the images of golden spheres, glittering balls and red sparkling strobe. All of us enjoyed the firework display and the fun time with one another throughout the night.
We spent a very pleasant afternoon at a Goldie friend's home, chatting with one another over our enjoyable lunch and watching a movie later in the day. It was always great to get together, sit back and relax on the couch to see a movie that was recommended by a Goldie friend. More importantly, we got to discuss about the movie plot afterwards, resulting in more social conversations Following our meal and entertainment, we had coffee, tea and cakes in order to satisfy our sweet tooths. Happy times always pass especially fast. At night we went to a nearby restaurant for dinner before we headed
home. We had lots of fun that day!
Old Mill Toronto is a picture-perfect restaurant located on the banks of the Humber River. After lunch together, we explored the hotel area and walked along the Humber River trail, which was a popular spot for biking as well. We also saw many people fishing by the river. It was so enjoyable to see people be active outdoor again. With the breathtaking views and warm and sunny weather, it was a great day out walking with friends.
We experienced authentic Chinese home cuisine at a local family-owned Chinese restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared each of them with one another. All the food was absolutely delicious. We all enjoyed the warm family-like atmosphere and home-made cooking styles. It was a very satisfying meal that really energized us to think about having another gathering soon for a different feast.

A lunch gathering was held at a cozy dining room in Donalda Club, a private property established in 1960 providing golf and year-round recreational activities to its members . Not only did we enjoy the food and service, but also we were impressed by the beautiful landscape and terrific facilities, such as tennis court, curling place, etc. Because of the rain, we were unable to snowshoe, as initially planned. Instead, we explored the venue, sat back and relaxed in the comfort of the friendly atmosphere.

Lunar New Year is one of the very important holidays to the Chinese. It is also a good opportunity bringing us together. We gathered at a Goldie friend's home tasting some of the Chinese traditional "lucky" food, such as turnip cakes, rice cakes, yam cakes, etc. Because the word, "cake", in Chinese is the same as "gao" (meaning high) in pronunciation, eating cakes during the lunar new year period symbolizes getting higher in all aspects of life (i.e. higher job position, higher income, etc.).
The "higher" you are, the more prosperous your life is. Whether you like Chinese New Year cakes
or not , we wish everyone a healthy and prosperous life in the year of tiger!
Venue : North York, Ontario
We had a small pot-luck party in a Goldie friend's home on New Year's Eve (adhering to government provincial rules). We gathered together to say goodbye to 2021 and welcomed 2022 with a lot of homemade delicious food. Besides enjoying mouth-watering dishes, we also exchanged holiday gifts with each other. As midnight approached, we started to count down to the arrival of a new year. We looked forward to a new year, which will unquestionably bring new challenges as well as new opportunities to each of us. May all the Goldie friends be happy and healthy in 2022 and always!

Cambridge is a city with many upscale restaurants. During our visit, we went to two of the popular ones. One was Cambridge Mill , a beautifully restored five-storey mill built in the 19th century. It is a fine-dining restaurant with natural lighting from the sun and gorgeous views of the Grand River in daytime . This comfortable and relaxed setting, together with its savoury food, contributed to a very positive dining experience for our participants. Before we headed back home, we stopped by
Langdon Hall , for an elegant afternoon tea. We sat in the Whisper Room, a feature specially embraced in the concave ceiling in the 1990's. and chatted with each other over hot drinks and delicious snacks. This was definitely the best way to spend the afternoon with our Goldie friends.

In addition to the fish ladder, Trattoria Gusto is another great place to visit in Port Hope.
It is located in the historic Waddell Hotel at the eastern end of Walton Street. The restaurant
serves delicious Italian cuisine and has a beautiful view of the Ganaraska River. Although we were not seated on the patio overlooking the river, we were given a private room where offered us a chilled-out atmosphere to sit back and relax after a long day of outing. At our server's recommendation, we ordered seafood pasta and mussel. It turned out to be a choice that we did not regret. The food was excellent! We truly enjoyed the evening at the restaurant.
We concluded our day with great food, great service, great conversation as well as great companion.
